Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
What is it and who can claim?

Disability Living Allowance

  • Disability Living Allowance - this benefit has been replaced by Personal Independance Payments (PIP), so new claimaints will claim PIP instead. It is a benefit a for those who due to their disabilities struggle and take longer to undertake 'daily tasks' such as washing, dressing, moving around, on their own, etc.  Some people have help from a spouse, partner, child, or friend, or have formal Carers visit to help them.

  • DLA - however, many older people are still in receipt of this benefit and many are on a 'low rate' that was Awarded many years ago.  If your Care needs have   increased since your Award then contact us to see if you are eligible to increase to the Higher Rate.

  • Do you need to have formal Carers? - no many people have family support, others just struggle on themselves, meaning everything takes them longer to do, whether this is washing, dressing or just moving around their home, or needing incontinence aids.

  • Can I claim if I live in a Care Home? -   Yes, but only if you pay 100% of your fees.

  •  What does this Benefit help to pay for? -  extra costs due to disability such as Carers, taxi fares, increased heating costs, water use due to increased laundry, for disability aids such as rollator trolleys, scooters, ear syringing, chiropody, etc.
